Hello friend,
I was just reading through the Sermon on the Mount=E2=80=94arguably Jesus=
=E2=80=99s most famous and resonating sermon=E2=80=94and I thought about ho=
w a certain passage is likely to become even more relevant in the days ahea=
d. I=E2=80=99m talking about Matthew 5:11-12, where Jesus said:
=E2=80=9CBlessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and fals=
ely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, f=
or your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the =
prophets who were before you.=E2=80=9D
As the days get darker spiritually, as our liberties are being trampled on =
and chipped away, as Christians are categorized by our culture as close min=
ded bigots=E2=80=94it=E2=80=99s not hard to foresee a future where religiou=
s persecution is intensified.
If things continue on their current trajectory, it is only a matter of time=
before things go from uncomfortable to unthinkable.
What are we to do when persecution comes our way? How does Jesus instruct u=
s to react? He doesn=E2=80=99t tell us to just hold on and endure. He doesn=
=E2=80=99t tell us to just sit tight and bear it.
As with so many other passages in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus ups the an=
te of what we would consider =E2=80=9Cnormal=E2=80=9D behavior. Jesus says =
that in the face of persecution we are to =E2=80=9Crejoice and be exceeding=
ly glad=E2=80=9D!

n on the Mount=E2=80=94arguably Jesus=E2=80=99s most famous and resonating =
sermon=E2=80=94and I thought about how a certain passage is likely to becom=
e even more relevant in the days ahead. I=E2=80=99m talking about Matthew 5=
:11-12, where Jesus said:<br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"><br style=3D"b=
ox-sizing:border-box"><em style=3D"box-sizing:border-box">=E2=80=9CBlessed =
are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds=
of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in=
heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were=
before you.=E2=80=9D</em><br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"><br style=3D"=
box-sizing:border-box">As the days get darker spiritually, as our liberties=
are being trampled on and chipped away, as Christians are categorized by o=
ur culture as close minded bigots=E2=80=94it=E2=80=99s not hard to foresee =
a future where religious persecution is intensified.<br style=3D"box-sizing=
:border-box"><br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box">If things continue on thei=
r current trajectory, it is only a matter of time before things go from <em=
style=3D"box-sizing:border-box">uncomfortable</em> to <em style=3D"box-siz=
ing:border-box">unthinkable</em>.<br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"><br st=
yle=3D"box-sizing:border-box">What are we to do when persecution comes our =
way? How does Jesus instruct us to react? He doesn=E2=80=99t tell us to jus=
t hold on and endure. He doesn=E2=80=99t tell us to just sit tight and bear=
it.<br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"><br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"=
>As with so many other passages in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus ups the a=
nte of what we would consider =E2=80=9Cnormal=E2=80=9D behavior. Jesus says=
that in the face of persecution we are to =E2=80=9Crejoice and be exceedin=

Hello friend,
I was just reading through the Sermon on the Mount—arguably Jesus’s most famous and resonating sermon—and I thought about how a certain passage is likely to become even more relevant in the days ahead. I’m talking about Matthew 5:11-12, where Jesus said:
“Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
As the days get darker spiritually, as our liberties are being trampled on and chipped away, as Christians are categorized by our culture as close minded bigots—it’s not hard to foresee a future where religious persecution is intensified.
If things continue on their current trajectory, it is only a matter of time before things go from uncomfortable to unthinkable.
What are we to do when persecution comes our way? How does Jesus instruct us to react? He doesn’t tell us to just hold on and endure. He doesn’t tell us to just sit tight and bear it.
As with so many other passages in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus ups the ante of what we would consider “normal” behavior. Jesus says that in the face of persecution we are to “rejoice and be exceedingly glad”!

n on the Mount=E2=80=94arguably Jesus=E2=80=99s most famous and resonating =
sermon=E2=80=94and I thought about how a certain passage is likely to becom=
e even more relevant in the days ahead. I=E2=80=99m talking about Matthew 5=
:11-12, where Jesus said:<br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"><br style=3D"b=
ox-sizing:border-box"><em style=3D"box-sizing:border-box">=E2=80=9CBlessed =
are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds=
of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in=
heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were=
before you.=E2=80=9D</em><br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"><br style=3D"=
box-sizing:border-box">As the days get darker spiritually, as our liberties=
are being trampled on and chipped away, as Christians are categorized by o=
ur culture as close minded bigots=E2=80=94it=E2=80=99s not hard to foresee =
a future where religious persecution is intensified.<br style=3D"box-sizing=
:border-box"><br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box">If things continue on thei=
r current trajectory, it is only a matter of time before things go from <em=
style=3D"box-sizing:border-box">uncomfortable</em> to <em style=3D"box-siz=
ing:border-box">unthinkable</em>.<br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"><br st=
yle=3D"box-sizing:border-box">What are we to do when persecution comes our =
way? How does Jesus instruct us to react? He doesn=E2=80=99t tell us to jus=
t hold on and endure. He doesn=E2=80=99t tell us to just sit tight and bear=
it.<br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"><br style=3D"box-sizing:border-box"=
>As with so many other passages in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus ups the a=
nte of what we would consider =E2=80=9Cnormal=E2=80=9D behavior. Jesus says=

Hello friend,
I was just reading through the Sermon on the Mount—arguably Jesus’s most famous and resonating sermon—and I thought about how a certain passage is likely to become even more relevant in the days ahead. I’m talking about Matthew 5:11-12, where Jesus said:
“Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
As the days get darker spiritually, as our liberties are being trampled on and chipped away, as Christians are categorized by our culture as close minded bigots—it’s not hard to foresee a future where religious persecution is intensified.
If things continue on their current trajectory, it is only a matter of time before things go from uncomfortable to unthinkable.
What are we to do when persecution comes our way? How does Jesus instruct us to react? He doesn’t tell us to just hold on and endure. He doesn’t tell us to just sit tight and bear it.
As with so many other passages in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus ups the ante of what we would consider “normal” behavior. Jesus says that in the face of persecution we are to “rejoice and be exceedingly glad”!
