I’m disappointed by the recent DACA ruling. A federal court decided that the DACA program is illegal, and that President Obama’s Administration did not have the authority to create this program in 2012. Sadly, this means DACA is at serious risk of being canceled.
For ten years, DACA has helped millions of immigrants who were brought here as children to take part in the American dream. These are good people who in their heart, soul, and mind are American. They don’t know any other country. Yet, many officials want to get rid of them and the program.
I want everyone to know that while DACA is at risk, the program is still in place at this moment. No one who currently has DACA will lose their protection from deportation or work authorization. DACA will also continue processing renewal requests for now. But no new applications will be accepted.
If you need to renew your DACA, I highly recommend you visit the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services DACA renewal website today.
It’s time we improve our broken immigration system so that we can protect our dreamers and keep families together. Polling shows 75% of Americans agree. That’s why I’m urging the Senate to pass the Dream and Promise Act – which the House has passed. This is the only way we can ensure permanent protection and a path to legal status for our nation’s Dreamers. I won’t stop fighting for them.
Sincerely, |
