Dear John xxxxxx,

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, starting in January 2023, insulin will be capped at $35 per month for Medicare beneficiaries. If the Inflation Reduction Act’s $35 insulin cap was in effect in 2020, a Medicare beneficiary in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District enrolled in a Medicare plan could have saved $1,433 per year. This is a matter of life and death. I held a press conference last week to highlight this important provision. We heard from a constituent who said that he often must decide between paying his bills or getting his lifesaving medication. Shame on the Republicans in Congress who want to repeal this law. Every person deserves access to affordable health care.

Last week, I was proud to celebrate the renaming of Tapestry 360 Health Centers, formerly known as Heartland Alliance. As Texas continues to bus migrants to Chicago, Tapestry 360 Health is on the frontline treating migrants’ medical needs. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has bused over 1,000 migrants to Chicago. When migrants arrive in Chicago, many of them have injured feet due to their long and grueling journeys. Tapestry has been there to help. Tapestry is just one example of an exemplary community health organization in our state. Community health organizations represent a crucial part of our nation’s public health infrastructure.

The Biden Administration recently announced that Social Security recipients will receive a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) of 8.7% – the highest increase in four decades. This historic increase will put more money in the pockets of the 70 million retirees, caregivers and people with disabilities who rely on these crucial benefits. The average Social Security benefit will increase by over $140 per month. Democrats have passed meaningful legislation to address the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs and lower costs for those relying on Social Security and Medicare. Republicans are planning to put these critical lifelines on the chopping block after five years. I will always put seniors, people with disabilities and caregivers over politics.

If you need any assistance from a federal agency, whether it be a Social Security problem, an immigration case, or a postal issue, just to name a few, my office is here to help. Head to my website for further assistance and information.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,
