Support the three Indivisibles running to flip the AZ legislature and safeguard the 2024 election Indivisibles,
Cindy, Judy, and Laura are like you. First they got outraged when Trump was elected in 2016. Then they got involved in their local Indivisible group. And now, they're running for state office in competitive districts in Arizona -- critical races that may help prevent a coup in 2024.
The conservative majority on the Supreme Court is poised to give state legislatures the power to overturn presidential elections. To safeguard the 2024 election, we have to take the fight to MAGA Republicans at the state level. Cindy Hans, Judy Schwiebert, and Laura Terech are doing just that. Their races could very well be the deciding factor in Arizona, and we’re incredibly proud to be supporting them through our Crush the Coup campaign.
With Republicans holding a one seat majority in the Arizona state House and Senate, what happens in three races could easily make or break Democrats’ chances of flipping the legislature. (If you’re ready to help some fellow Indivisibles win absolutely critical races, click here to split a donation between Indivisible and the three Indivisible members running in Arizona).
In just two weeks, we’ve been able to raise at least $4,000 for these Indivisibles (which is incredible, especially for a state legislative race!) but we’re not stopping here. With the stakes this high we’re committed to raising at least $12,000 for these amazing candidates:
- Cindy Hans has lived in Arizona since 1988, raising three children, all public-school graduates. Her career was spent primarily as a teacher, assistant principal and principal. After retiring in 2017, she focused on strengthening our democracy, volunteering with the League of Women Voters and the Elections Department as a Deputy Registrar. She is running in District 13 to support public school funding and bring accountability and transparency to charter schools, protect the broad access to voting, and represent all who want government out of their healthcare decisions. Cindy was a member of Indivisible Arizona.
- Representative Judy Schwiebert has spent her life in service to her community -- first as a beloved public school teacher and librarian and now as a member of the state legislature. In office, Judy has focused on getting to work and has co-sponsored multiple bills to help students and teachers succeed. In her first election in 2020, she beat a Republican incumbent and helping her win this year will be crucial for flipping the Arizona legislature. Judy was co-founder of Desert Progressive Indivisibles.
- Laura Terech is a teacher, community organizer, and candidate for the Arizona State House in District 4. After a career as an elementary school teacher, Laura turned to community organizing, knowing we must make structural changes to how and when Arizona invests in its public schools. She has spent the last several years as a leader in her community and local advocacy groups focused on public education and voting rights. Laura is ready to take this experience and find community-based solutions on issues like education, the right to vote, protecting access to reproductive healthcare, and more. Laura was an organizer of Civic Engagement Beyond Voting.
Time and time again, we’ve seen Indivisibles step up and become leaders in their communities, fighting for our democracy and progressive values. These three Indivisibles have also made the extraordinary decision to run for office (and re-election!). Each of these candidates would be a vote in defense of our democracy and with the support of Indivisibles across the country we can help them flip the Arizona state legislature and safeguard the 2024 election.
There’s only 22 days left until the election, and early voting has already started in Arizona. If you’re ready to help some fellow Indivisibles win their races and prevent a MAGA coup, click here to split a donation between Indivisible, Cindy Hans, Judy Schwiebert, and Laura Terech.
If you’re not able to chip in, we still need you in this fight: head over to CrushtheCoup.org to find more ways to mobilize voters and support our Indivisible candidates and all of our state legislative candidates.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
