PERFORMANCE STANDARDS - MATH, SCIENCE, AND COMPUTER SCIENCE

  • On July 1, 2022, Chapter 10 Rules were signed by Governor Mark Gordon, which included the designation of Performance Standards for Math and Science.?
  • The educator versions, which include the previously adopted Content Standards (no change), the newly adopted Performance Standards (PS), and all the Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs) can be found in the following links: 2021 Math? Content and Performance Standards and 2021 Science Content and Performance Standards.?
  • Districts have already fully implemented the Content Standards and must implement the designated PS into the district curriculum, instruction, and assessment system, by the start of the 2024-25 school year.?
  • Reminder: On April 7, 2021, the 2020 Computer Science Content and Performance Standards were adopted and are to be fully implemented by the start of the current 2022-23 school year. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS (PS), identified with the code in blue highlight and an asterisk (*), are the standards all students are expected to learn and be assessed on through the district assessment system by the end of the grade band.?
  • They specify the specific degree of understanding or demonstration of the knowledge and/or skill for a particular content standard, As such, they employ clear action verbs and describe ?how good is good enough.??
  • Districts are expected to give students multiple opportunities to demonstrate proficiency on the Performance Standards through the District Assessment System (DAS) and provide appropriate supports for student success.?

ASSESSMENT AUTHORING TOOL

Item Authoring Tool is Now Available?

  • Reference the Wyoming Authoring Condensed User Guide to begin creating and sharing assessment items for all 10 content areas of Wyoming Standards.
  • The items will align to the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards or the Wyoming Extended Standards.
  • The full Wyoming Authoring User Guide is also available for detailed information about using the Authoring Tool.?
  • The Authoring Tool is located in the ?Before Testing? column of the Educators section on the Wyoming Assessment Portal.

PAEMST 2022-23 AWARD CYCLE

Nominations Open

  • The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the U.S. government specifically for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teachers.
  • Anyone may nominate exceptional STEM educators currently teaching grades 7-12.??
  • Teachers may also apply directly.?

SAVE THE DATE - 2023 NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATION CONFERENCE

  • The 14th annual Native American Education Conference will be held August 8-10, 2023, at Central Wyoming College in Riverton.

STUDENT COMPETITIONS

  • Student applications are being accepted for the 2023 U.S. Senate Youth Program, aimed at youth seeking a career in public service. A $10,000 scholarship goes to Wyoming's top two students. Apply here.?
  • CyberWyoming Alliance is bringing a virtual challenge of Capture the Flag security puzzles to Wyoming middle and high schools, October 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Three teams will be sponsored, and any school in Wyoming may sign up to be a team on a first-come, first-served basis.   • Students in public, private, and homeschool grades 7-12 may participate in the Fleet Reserve Association?s 2022 Americanism Essay Contest. Grand prize is $5,000. Deadline is December 1, 2022. Contact Cheryl Koski at 307-630-9008 or [email protected].

COMPUTER SCIENCE

  • CSTA Wyoming and the University of Wyoming have teamed up to offer the 2nd Annual Teacher Hackathon. Virtual, free, and open to all K-12 teachers. The main event is from 5-7 p.m. on October 24, 2022. Sign up as a team or individually. Register here.?

STEM

  • The University of Wyoming Science and Mathematics Teaching Center is accepting applications for the middle-level math graduate program (starts in January) and science program (starts in June).?
  • National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, March 22-25, 2023. Learn more and register.?
  • GIS mapping allows students to collect, visualize, and analyze scientific or engineering data about anything involving location. It allows STEM students to do exactly what STEM professionals do in thousands of career fields daily.?Learn more.
  • Data Nuggets are free classroom activities, co-designed by scientists and teachers, which bring contemporary research and authentic data into the classroom and build quantitative abilities.
  • Current Wyoming research is available to share with your students through the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research.
  • The Virtual K-12 Roadshow is accessible through the University of Wyoming Science Initiative.?
  • Wyoming migration resources are also available.
  • Your local museum(s) often have virtual field trips, educational trunks, or traveling exhibits.
