Dear John,
On Wednesday, workers from the Refresco bottling plant in New Jersey, members of UE Local 115, will be traveling to New York City to deliver a petition for a fair first union contract to the corporate headquarters of KKR, the private-equity firm that owns a majority stake in their company.

Refresco workers are currently in bargaining for their first union contract. One of the major sticking points is the company’s insistence on making workers work multiple lines simultaneously, leading to accidents, injuries, and quality control issues. Refresco worker Jose Cepeda and UE Local 115 activist drew this picture to illustrate how he and he co-workers feel — like they need multiple arms:
For years, Refresco workers have been fighting abusive treatment by supervisors, low wages, paltry benefits, sexual harassment, an unforgiving attendance system that penalizes workers for getting sick, and 12-hour shifts imposed by the company during the COVID-19 pandemic. Refresco’s health and safety record is so abysmal that in 2022 the company named one of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health’s “Dirty Dozen.”
Now, after winning two labor board elections, Refresco workers are finally at the bargaining table with their employer — but they need your support to win the strongest possible contract!
