John,

Marine scientists have been raising alarm bells for years about the danger our coral reefs face from climate change. From Florida to Japan, we’ve seen coral reef systems collapse – and in Australia, the Great Barrier Reef has been experiencing one of the worst mass-bleaching events in its history.

Now, a mysterious illness is decimating coral reef populations throughout the Caribbean. The plague-like affliction called stony coral tissue loss disease spreads quickly and kills off large swathes of corals.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) put out a $36 million plan to combat the disease, but they need allies in Congress who will ensure they have the continued support and resources to execute it. Can you chip in a donation to help our SEEC members continue fighting to save our coral reefs? [[link removed]]

We need to act fast John. According to the NOAA, stony coral tissue loss disease has already been identified in 22 Caribbean countries and territories. What’s worse, the disease’s effects are made worse by climate change . The NOAA expects warming ocean temperatures driven by climate change will make the disease more frequent and deadly to coral reefs.

There’s no time to waste. The health of our reefs is vital to keeping a healthy planet. They protect our shorelines from storms and are a source of many different modern medicines. We need to ensure that the NOAA has the resources it needs to carry out its plan to stop this disease before it’s too late.

Our SEEC members have consistently been at the forefront in the fight against climate change and to save important ecosystems like coral reefs. Can you help keep them in Congress by donating today so they can continue their critical work? [[link removed]]

Thank you,
