Student Loan Deferment Extension
On August 24th, President Biden extended the student debt moratorium to December 31st, 2022 and forgave $10,000 in student loans for people who make <$125,000 a year, (Up to $20,000) for Pell Grant recipients, effectively wiping away the debt of 20 millions Americans overnight. What You Need-To-Know About Passport Services

Applying for a passport can be a challenging and stressful experience. To avoid any unforeseen circumstances, I recommend planning ahead and applying early. As of April, the current processing times following a passport application are as follows:

  • Routine Service: 8 to 11 weeks
  • Expedited Service: 5 to 7 weeks

Please note, processing times begin the day Passport Services receives the application at a passport agency or center, not the day the application is mailed or submitted.

To check the status of your passport application, please visit: passportstatus.state.gov with the following information:

  • Last name on application
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security Number (Last Four Digits)

CONGRESSWOMAN CLARKE ISSUES STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR HOCHUL ANNOUNCEMENT THAT 1 MILLION FAMILIES HAVE JOINED FEDERAL AFFORDABILITY BROADBAND PROGRAM

In New York and across 21st century America, broadband has become firmly entrenched and intrinsically tied to our everyday lives. From gaining an education, to pursuing job opportunities, to simply reconnecting with our loved ones, stable and affordable internet access is precisely what enables our participation in modern society. And that is why I am beyond thankful for the Affordable Connectivity Program. Governor Hochul’s recent announcement on her initiative's remarkable milestone not only proves the program’s efficacy, but inspires hope that further successes exist on its horizons. Moreover, it makes our dream of a universally and equitably connected New York an emerging possibility. I look forward to working alongside the Hochul Administration in the years to come to make it a distinct reality.

CONGRESSWOMAN CLARKE ISSUES STATEMENT ON THE FACIAL RECOGNITION ACT OF 2022

There is no question that, in its current state, facial recognition is a flawed and harmful technology. We have long past the theoretical when it comes to its struggles identifying and misidentifying women and people of color and, consequently, the real world implications of its deficiencies are confronting real people every day. While these shortcoming are disastrous in the private sector, in law enforcement, they are entirely unacceptable. My sincere gratitude goes to each of my colleagues standing for this essential legislation. I promise to always fight for legislative solutions such as the Facial Recognition Act of 2022 that center the experiences and wellbeing of the individuals affected by these emerging technologies, rather than the false promises of those promoting them.
