Hi,

In a scathing ruling last week, a federal judge found that Trump-appointed
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy slowed down mail delivery in the run-up to
the 2020 election, just as tens of millions of Americans were attempting
to vote by mail in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.^1

The judge's ruling confirms what we said all along: Louis DeJoy threatened
our democracy by sabotaging on-time mail delivery in 2020 and potentially
disenfranchised untold numbers of voters.

The only question now is why on earth hasn't this corrupt Trump holdover
been fired yet?!

Demand Progress Action has driven more than 200,000 signatures into
Congress and the White House calling for DeJoy to be fired. This latest
bombshell may finally provide the chance to get rid of DeJoy for good.

In the summer and fall of 2020, DeJoy shut down mail sorting machines,
removed postal boxes, and banned mail carriers from making extra trips to
ensure on-time mail delivery in order to prevent postal workers from
earning overtime pay. The judge found that these changes should not have
been made without permission from the Postal Regulatory Commission, and he
put orders in place to prevent DeJoy from doing it again in the future.

But believe it or not, this ruling wasn't even DeJoy's only outrage last
week. The very next day, DeJoy sparked more backlash by announcing yet
another massive increase in postage rates, increasing the cost of a stamp
to 63 cents.^2

There's no sugarcoating it: Ever since he was appointed by Trump, Louis
DeJoy has been an utter disaster for the U.S. Postal Service.

He has more than a dozen conflicts of interest because of his and his
family’s investments in companies closely tied to the U.S. Postal
Service.^3 His widely condemned 10-year plan includes eliminating tens of
thousands of jobs, shutting down post offices, and slowing mail delivery
even more.^4 He tried to buy 165,000 gas-guzzling mail trucks instead of
electric models in defiance of a Biden administration executive order on
the climate crisis.^5

It's been nearly two years since Joe Biden was elected. Trump's postmaster
general should be long gone. It took months of pressure to confirm
President Biden's nominees to the Postal Service Oversight Board, which
has the authority to replace DeJoy. Now we must turn up the heat and
finish the job.
