“Social media companies have played a really important role in
amplifying those sentiments of hate that are being circulated on the
internet. It makes it even more important for the government to move
forward in a really focused way with the legislation they are working
on to address the issue of online hate and harms, and ways in which we
can not just encourage but co-opt social media platforms to assume
responsibility for those things that appear on their sites.”
- Shimon Koffler Fogel, CIJA CEO
CIJA continues to raise the issue of the importance of a
consistent, cross-government and departmental approach to ensuring no
funding is provided to groups harbouring hate.
In an interview
on Global
News, CIJA President & CEO Shimon Koffler Fogel spoke about
how Laith Marouf's organization, CMAC, was awarded more than $500,000
for participation in CRTC hearings and how this transaction must also
be reviewed and addressed. The CRTC has now announced an internal
review.
