Working to Provide Disaster Relief to Fishermen
I joined Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-Miss.) and other Gulf Coast congressmen this week in urging Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to support requests from Louisiana and other Gulf Coast states for fishery disaster assistance. This assistance would help mitigate the impacts on seafood and recreational fishing industries throughout 2019 due to the openings of the Bonnet Carre Spillway. Congress previously designated funding specifically for fishery disaster assistance, and it is now up to Secretary Ross to issue this emergency assistance. The livelihoods of many in our coastal communities are dependent on a healthy marine environment, and disruptions to these ecosystems have heavy impacts on both the commercial and recreational fishing industries, including the supply chains they support.
Modernizing the TV Marketplace
Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-Calif.) and I introduced the Modern Television Act of 2019 on Thursday. This bill would repeal outdated regulations of the 1992 Cable Act to increase competition in the TV marketplace and to better address perennial broadcast TV blackouts. Our bill goes back to basic copyright protection, so that everyone gets paid for their product, and you get to choose what you want to buy, wherever you want to buy it, for whatever device you want to watch your video on.

Visiting with Louisiana Families in the Capitol
Each week, I take time to visit with families traveling to DC in a meeting I've taken to calling "Lagniappe." I always enjoy hearing about everyone's trip to the nation's capital and learning what issues in Congress are important to them. If you are planning a trip to DC, please contact my office for assistance with scheduling tours of the Capitol or for joining my "Lagniappe" meetings.
It was great to meet and speak with Louisianans visiting DC.
It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
God Bless,
Steve Scalise
House Republican Whip
