Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good Afternoon,

I hope everyone had a good week! It was wonderful to be in our great State of Arizona this week! This week, I spoke with constituents in Glendale, AZ to discuss why I founded the Protect Kids Caucus and how Republicans are fighting back against Democrats’ failed policies that are destroying our nation.

I also joined Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ-05), Former Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, and Former Acting U.S. Attorney General Matt Whitaker at America First Policy Institute’s town hall in Phoenix, AZ in the Eighth Congressional District. We discussed how Democrats have created a border crisis, fentanyl crisis, and crime crisis, and how Republicans are fighting back to save our nation.

Lesko Presses FBI On Targeting of Pro-Life Americans

I was pleased to join Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-21) in requesting a hearing from the FBI on its seemingly politically motivated use of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act to target pro-life Americans while letting radical pro-abortion activists off the hook. This appears to be yet another example of the Biden Administration's continued politicization of the FBI.

GET THE FACTS: President Biden's Cost-of-Living Crisis Gets Even Worse

September's Consumer Price Index (CPI), a key inflation index, came in higher than expected at 8.2% year over year. This marks the 18^th month in a row that the inflation rate has outpaced workers’ wages. Real average hourly earnings also decreased by 3.0% from September 2021 to September 2022. The sky-high cost of goods and services will cost the average American household over $700 a month, which adds up to over $8,000 a year. In Arizona, we are facing an even more detrimental cost-of-living crisis. The Phoenix-area inflation rate is at 13%, and the rising price of goods has cost Arizonans over $10,000 annually. This cost-of-living crisis is a direct result of President Biden and congressional Democrats' out-of-control spending. Solving this cost-of-living crisis is one of my top priorities as your representative in Congress, and I will continue to work with my House Republican colleagues to rein in this reckless spending and bring down the cost of living across America.

Casework Highlight

A constituent contacted our office for assistance after waiting over 18 months for their 2020 tax refund. Our office contacted the IRS, the constituent's return was located and processed, and the constituent finally received their tax refund.

Encouraging Story

I want to share this story about how high school students in Arizona are being paired with local veterans and spend the semester interviewing them about their lives and service to our nation as part of the Veterans Heritage Project. The testimonials then get published in a commemorative book. I am pleased to see students honoring our nation's veterans and preserving their heroism for future generations.
