As National Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to look back on our very first Brand New Congress win.

AOC’s general election victory on November 6, 2018 was groundbreaking for a dozen reasons.
She was the FIRST BNC recruit to win a seat in Congress – unseating the fourth most powerful Democrat in Congress along the way.
When she was sworn into office less than two months later, at the age of 29, AOC became the youngest woman and the youngest Latina ever elected to Congress.
She ran on an unapologetically bold, progressive platform and immediately began pushing the political status quo.
Within weeks she i ntroduced the Green New Deal alongside Sen. Ed Markey and radically transformed the Democratic Party’s conversation around climate change.
In the months that followed, every single Democratic candidate for president began echoing pieces of her platform – our platform, the people’s priorities – as they vied for the 2020 presidential nomination.
And she’s done it all without a single cent of corporate PAC money. Just pure, grassroots power.
In the span of a few years, Alexandria has changed what people believe is possible and redefined the conversation about what we have a right to expect from our government.
“We can do good things and reject the scarcity mindset that says doing something good for someone else comes at the cost of something for ourselves.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Here’s why your contribution matters, John:
Alexandria is one of the most heavily targeted members of Congress. Every dollar we help her raise is used to measure her public support, and is also scrutinized by political opponents, pundits, and powerful special interests to measure the strength of the entire progressive movement.
Will you make a donation to BNC and AOC’s reelection campaign now to help us show how strong the support for our movement is? Every contribution – no matter how big or small – is what keeps BNC representatives like Alexandria in Congress and builds strength for our priorities. [[link removed]]

Over the past few months, Alexandria has moved a lot of progressive priorities forward, such as:
Shared widely and publicly how pregnant people seeking abortion care can access medical abortion by mail after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Raised over $45,000 to support relief in Puerto Rico after a massive hurricane left communities without power and access to clean drinking water.
Called out Republicans for their latest anti-immigrant publicity stunt.
Provided evidence that led to the latest lawsuit against Trump and his family.
Successfully stopped a fracked-gas power plant in Queens that will now be the site of wind energy development.
Stood and organized with unions across the country, like the American Postal Workers Union and Teamsters, and helped Starbucks workers in New York unionize for the first time!
The energy behind Alexandria’s 2018 victory helped to usher in a wave of progressive candidates up and down the ballot. We grew that coalition in 2020, by electing Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman – and re-electing Rashida Tlaib.
Now this year we have the opportunity to DOUBLE progressive power in Congress with a whole slate of BNC candidates on the ballot.
It’s difficult to express just how much progress we’ve made in the last four years. The ripple effect of our movement is being felt not just across the country, but all around the world.
We are on the cusp of a true, international, people-powered movement, and we have to keep building our momentum for change.
We need Alexandria in office to keep pushing things forward. Will you split a contribution between AOC’s campaign and Brand New Congress today? [[link removed]]
In solidarity,

Since 2016 BNC has led the way in advancing popular policies like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal and electing bold progressive fighters. We recruited and elected AOC in 2018 and Cori Bush in 2020. With seven BNC Reps currently in office [[link removed]] , we are growing progressive power in Congress.
This November we’re working to flip multiple red seats, fill open seats with bold progressives, and elect our first BNC Senator by defeating Rand Paul.
Pitch in today and join us as we take over Congress and return power to the people.
