Our winning formula: meaningful conversations + strategic targeting + community connections

Indivisibles,

We are officially in ✨GOTV mode✨ here at Indivisible, and running all of our tried-and-true virtual voter contact tactics like peer-to-peer textbanking and phonebanking (sign up here to get plugged in for the next 20-odd days!). But the stakes of this election are simply too high to leave anything off the table. That's why we’ve launched two pilot programs this cycle that we hope to scale up in these final weeks -- but we need your help to do it.

Neighbor2Neighbor

Neighbor2Neighbor is our newest program launching in Give No Ground states designed to link community members with each other to increase voter turnout. The way it works is simple -- once you sign up for the program, we will send you a list of up to 5 likely progressive voters near your address along with a short script, best practices, and an optional printout to leave if they are not home. Then, you just knock on your five neighbors’ doors and remind them to vote! That’s it.

When we launched the pilot this summer, we started in Michigan, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, testing on three states to increase voter turnout. Now we’re ready to expand to all of our Give No Ground states.

Studies show that the most impactful way to encourage someone to vote is through contact with already trusted sources (like their own community). As neighbors, you have shared interests and priorities -- you know what matters most to each other because they are often the same things that affect your own life.

Neighbor2Neighbor takes that level of community engagement and uses it to encourage civic engagement. The more we can identify and encourage progressive voters with soft community pressure, the better chance we have to win in November. For the next few weeks, we’ll give our neighbors a friendly nudge to remind them what’s at stake for their community this cycle.

Deep Canvassing

Our virtual deep canvassing program has been a hidden gem of the current election cycle.

As a voter contact tool, deep canvassing can be used not only to motivate reluctant voters to take action, but also to move voters who might not normally vote with you to your side -- think pro-choice independents and Republicans. The best part about it is that you can do it from the comfort of your own home (Isn’t phonebanking wonderful?)

We have been running deep canvassing phonebanks in 6 key states (AZ, GA, IL, OR, PA, and WI) specifically addressing the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade and how important the right to choose is to a large majority of Americans.

Deep canvassing allows our volunteers to participate in meaningful and fulfilling conversations with voters across lines of difference and we have found that we’ve been moving ~10% of the voters we contact and ~30% of the voters considered moveable which is an incredible shift in the electorate, especially in close races.

Here’s a quote from one of our dedicated volunteers:

“I asked myself recently why I go to deep canvassing (DC) phonebanks -- after all, I may have just 2-3 real conversations in 90 minutes. Why do these small numbers not bug me, when on a non-DC phonebank that has an auto-dialer I might talk to 30 people in the same amount of time? Here’s the answer: I keep coming back because the Indivisible DC phonebanks are magic. I am naturally cynical, impatient, and mildly cranky -- but when I come into the DC phonebank space I transform into the type of person I want to be: open-hearted, gentle, radically empathetic. (Even more surprising, I become the type of person who would use words like that unironically to describe myself!) All of this is because of [the trainers]…They support us to thoroughly understand the DC approach by providing an excellent training, and they also create that magical space where we can step into our best selves. The opportunity to join is a gift: it’s a gift to get to be my “deep canvasser self” for a few precious hours.”

As you can see, we’re pulling out all the stops to defeat MAGA extremism in November.

Where do you come in?

Both of these programs require higher engagement, but that engagement leads to larger, positive impacts for our democracy. When we reach out to people and connect on a deeper level, when we encourage members of our own communities to get out and vote, we win.

But higher engagement also requires more resources. We need your help to keep our programs up and running. Click here to chip in $11 (for our 11 Give No Ground states) today!
