Dear John,

I’m Dorianna Blitt a board member at Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights. The work done here at UAF really inspires me, UAF responds to activists on the frontlines 365 days a year without hesitation.

Through supporting Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights I know that I am a part of the support system driving and sustaining women’s human rights defenders that devote their lives to making the changes we need in the world.

From all corners of the world, we have seen an increasing demand to safeguard and strengthen women’s human rights. There are many mornings that I find it difficult to get out of bed. As a young person in this moment, it can be difficult to hold on to the belief that we have the power to bring about positive change in our world.

My hope comes from the perseverance and strength of activists fighting on all fronts. During their time of need, women human rights defender’s know that UAF will support and protect the brave individuals who remain invisible on the frontlines.
 
Through online, text, and mobile applications UAF provides rapid response grants to WHRD’s. Activists on the ground receive a response within 72 hours with funds arriving on the ground within a week.

Knowing that I am somehow a part of supporting activists like:
Faika Deniz Pasha
collecting testimonies of Yazidi and Kurdish women that survived ISIS capture, gender-based violence, and enslavement which was presented to the International Criminal Court for formal prosecution
Nazik Kyz
in Kyrgyzstan who moved the Minister of Labor and Social Development to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
Nighat Dad
an activist in Pakistan built an innovative Cyber Harassment Helpline through the Digital Rights Foundation supporting individuals around the globe
gives me strength and makes it easier for me to get up on those mornings when the dark realities of this moment take over.
