“Our federal prisons must serve as institutions that rehabilitate individuals and prepare them for reentry into society — that cannot happen without putting meaningful accountability measures in place.” — Rep. Lucy McBath [[link removed]]

Hey, John – anyone familiar with my work knows that criminal justice reform is a deeply important issue to me. One element that’s sometimes overlooked is the condition of our prisons.
For far too long, there’s been a lack of accountability and oversight on how these institutions are run.
That’s why I’m proud to be leading the charge on the Federal Prison Oversight Act alongside Sen. Jon Ossoff and other leaders in Congress. This bill would make it mandatory for the Inspector General of the Department of Justice to properly investigate and inspect the Federal Bureau of Prisons' 122 correctional facilities. It would also require a safe hotline and online form for families and friends of incarcerated individuals to send in any concerns about the facilities.
Please help us pass this crucial legislation by signing on as a citizen co-sponsor. The more names that are added, the more pressure we can put on our colleagues in Congress to put it to a vote. [[link removed]]

As I’ve said, prisons should serve to rehabilitate individuals and prepare them for reentry into society. Putting in place meaningful oversight is just the first step. We can’t begin to solve the problems that our prisons face until elected officials fully comprehend what’s really going on inside the walls of our correctional facilities.
I’m committed to getting this bill onto President Biden’s desk. You can help us out by adding your name as a citizen co-sponsor to show lawmakers that Americans won’t let this abuse go on unchecked. [[link removed]]
