John,
A new court ruling has put the DACA program at risk, which could lead to the deportation of hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.
For too long, these young people—known as Dreamers—have lived in limbo, their entire lives in potential upheaval based on court decisions.
Dreamers have shown up with endless courage and determination for their right to live free from fear, and to stay safe and together with their families in the only country they know as home. They need a path to citizenship.
Please add your name to tell Congress: Act now to permanently protect young immigrants—known as Dreamers—from deportation.
The House passed legislation supporting Dreamers and other young people who came to the U.S. as children, but it stalled in the Senate due to Republican opposition.
We don’t have any time to waste. Instead of waiting on Court decisions that will likely keep putting DACA in jeopardy, Congress can and must provide permanent protections for immigrant youth.
It’s important to act now, because it’s unclear whether we’ll still have Democratic majorities in the House and Senate after this November’s midterm elections.
Please sign to tell Congress: Act now to permanently protect young immigrants—known as Dreamers—from deportation.
In solidarity,
Rashida
P.S. If you are a current DACA recipient or a loved one of a current DACA recipient: The new court ruling does maintain a stay that will allow for current DACA recipients to continue renewing their applications.
However, it’s unclear for how long. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the DACA program and sent it back to Judge Hanen in the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Texas—who already ruled to put a partial end to DACA by stopping first-time DACA applications from being processed. Now that judge will decide on the fate of the DACA program.
