Gov. Justice announces legislation to eliminate car tax immediately without Amendment 2 ([link removed])

On Tuesday, Gov. Justice announced the Car and All Vehicles Tax Elimination and Protection of Local Government Act, which would credit property taxes paid on certain vehicles back to taxpayers without amending the West Virginia Constitution, as proposed by Amendment 2.

Each year, all West Virginians who own a vehicle would receive a tax credit, equal to the amount of tax paid on their vehicles. Pass-through entities and corporations would also be eligible to receive the credit. It applies retroactively to January 1, 2022.

Justice held several Community Conversations to greet constituents and discuss the Governor's proposal to reduce West Virginia's Personal Income Tax, and his opposition to Amendment 2. Gov. Justice hosted a celebration Wednesday at Senior Monongalians, presenting a $100,000 check to Monongalia County seniors as grand prize winners in the Senior Center Edition of the Do it for Babydog vaccination sweepstakes.

"Thank you all so much in every way,” Gov. Justice said. “You’ve pulled the rope for all of us. We celebrate the wisdom you pass down to each and everyone of us. Keep doing it.”

Gov. Justice announces New Fall Monster Trout Stocking Program ([link removed])

On Friday, Gov. Justice announced the launch of a new fall Monster Trout stocking program to coincide with West Virginia’s regular fall trout stocking during the weeks of Oct. 17 and Oct. 24, 2022. The new Monster Trout stocking also includes a contest that rewards anglers who catch a monster trout.

First Lady Cathy Justice invites students to create ornaments for the 2022 First Lady Student Ornament Competition ([link removed])

First Lady Cathy Justice is inviting all West Virginia students to participate in the eighteenth annual First Lady Student Ornament Competition. All kindergarten through 12th grade students who are public, private, or home-schooled are encouraged to create a “Nutcracker” themed ornament for the tree, which will be on display at the Culture Center in Charleston during the holiday season.

Gov. Justice requests Presidential Disaster Declaration for Summer 2022 flooding ([link removed])

Gov. Justice announced Friday that he has formally requested federal assistance for damages caused by severe weather and flooding from July 12 to August 15, 2022, during which West Virginia received up to 200% of its normal precipitation and did not see one 24-hour period without rainfall. This prolonged weather event resulted in flooded homes, schools and businesses, washed out roadways, and miles of damaged or destroyed water and sewage lines.

First Lady Cathy Justice invites West Virginians to create bows for the 2022 Best Bow Christmas Contest ([link removed])

First Lady Justice is inviting all West Virginians age 19 and up to participate in the 2022 Best Bow Christmas Contest. Eligible West Virginians are encouraged to create their best Christmas bow, which will be hung on a special “bow tree” at the Culture Center in Charleston during the holiday season. The contest will be part of the First Lady’s Artist Series initiative, which encourages all disciplines and mediums of art.

West Virginia experiencing best fall colors of the decade ([link removed])

Colors are quickly changing throughout the Mountain State as the West Virginia Department of Tourism releases its third fall foliage update of the season. Both out-of-state visitors and West Virginia residents are encouraged to check out some of the nation’s best fall foliage before it’s too late. A paradise of remarkable fall color spreads throughout Webster, Randolph and Upshur counties, all of which are expected to reach peak over the weekend and into next week. Visit the nearby Holly River State Park, Audra State Park and Kumbrabow State Forest to witness astonishing autumn woodland scenes on display.

West Virginia State Parks celebrates completion of upgrades at Tomlinson Run State Park ([link removed])

On Thursday, West Virginia State Parks announced the completion of the Stream Restoration Project at Tomlinson Run State Park. The public-private partnership between the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and Water and Land Solutions resulted in nearly 8,000 linear feet of the stream restoration, as well as tree planting and creation of new wildlife viewing opportunities.

Winners selected in fifth annual State Fire Marshal Fire Safety Poster Contest ([link removed])

The Fifth Annual State Fire Marshal Fire Safety Poster Contest winners have been selected from the 94 student entries, representing 17 counties. This contest recognizes students who demonstrated an understanding of the issues related to fire safety, and who demonstrate the ability to visually portray that knowledge on posters and artwork they have created.
