Monarch butterflies are in trouble. They’ve declined by roughly 97% in the last 20 years in the West. And a key culprit is the massive increase in the use of glyphosate -- a.k.a. Monsanto’s Roundup®.

It’s a simple formula: More Roundup® = less milkweed = fewer monarchs.

At Friends of the Earth, we’re working to get this toxic pesticide out of our food system and shift to organic agriculture -- but we need your help. If 75% of the people reading this email donate before midnight, we'll reach our goal.

Stop Monsanto from wiping out the monarchs -- donate $27 or more and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar!

Over the last two decades, what used to be a roaring river of butterflies migrating to Mexico each year has become a trickle.

At the same time, the amount of Roundup® being used each year has gone from 25-30 million pounds, to 180-185 million. That’s more than half a pound of this pesticide for every American!

It’s no wonder our butterflies are in trouble. And the dramatically increased use of Roundup® is bad for us as well -- the World Health Organization has found this pesticide is a “probable carcinogen.”

The evidence is clear: we must stop supporting a food system built on toxic pesticides like Roundup® and instead build a future of organic for all.

But instead, the Trump Administration wants to hand Monsanto a license to pollute our environment, harm our health, and wipe out monarch butterflies. Trump’s EPA intends to allow Big Ag to keep dousing our food in this toxic chemical. We need your help to stop it.

Stop Monsanto from poisoning our environment and communities with Roundup®: Donate $27 or more before time runs out to make your 2019 donation!

Roundup® is wiping out butterflies and putting our health at risk -- but it’s making $5 billion every year in profits for Monsanto. So surely the company is doing everything it can to protect those profits.

Friends of the Earth members like you have been leading the fight against Monsanto to eliminate these pesticides:

  • You’ve called on food companies like Ben & Jerry’s and Kroger to get glyphosate out of the products they sell. These companies can help speed up the transition to organic agriculture. And we’re starting to see a shift -- in the last few months alone, Aldi and Rite Aid have made commitments to reduce toxic pesticides in their products.
  • At the same time, you’re fighting Big Ag’s influence over our politics. You pushed the Justice Department to reject the mega-merger of Bayer and Monsanto. While the merger went through, we can still stop even more consolidation in our food system. Next year, we’ll be working to advance legislation to prevent future mergers like this one.
  • You’re pushing cities and states across the country to take action to ban Monsanto’s Roundup® and other bee- and butterfly-harming pesticides. A few weeks ago, after Friends of the Earth and allies campaigned for nearly a year in New York, Governor Cuomo finally took action to ban chlorpyrifos. This is the second-most toxic pesticide to bees and it’s linked to health impacts like autism. Now, we need to hold Governor Cuomo accountable for following through on his ban.
  • Even with Trump in the White House, we can still build momentum for federal action on pesticides. Friends of the Earth members like you have helped build support for bills to ban chlorpyrifos, glyphosate, and neonics nationwide. It’s an uphill battle -- but together we can get these bills through the House of Representatives.

Together, we can save monarch butterflies from extinction. We can move to a truly sustainable, healthy, organic food system that works for pollinators, people and the planet. But we need you with us.

Double your impact and help save monarchs from extinction: Give $27 or more and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $930,000!
