I’ll be direct with you: political campaigns can be tough work -- especially for a first-time candidate like me who is running a very competitive district like CA-08. But I get through the hardest days simply by reminding myself why I’m in this race.

This community means so much to me, and I’m ready to give back by working to make people’s lives better. That means bringing more good-paying jobs to our district, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and protecting our environment and natural resources.

When I first announced my campaign to represent CA-08, I was met with a lot of skepticism. Many said this district was too “red” and that our community wasn’t ready for bold changes. We’re proving the skeptics wrong.

There’s no big secret to our success. We’re keeping our campaign focused squarely on the people of CA-08 and that has translated into strong, local grassroots support. And we are outworking our competition. As the only woman candidate in a field of seven men, that's just what we have to do.

But next week’s FEC deadline will be our biggest test yet. It’s going to take everyone pitching in if we’re going to hit this goal and win this competitive race.
