John,
Election season coupled with the ongoing war in Ukraine makes this a volatile time for DisMis to spread. The George Washington Initiative is working to combat the spread, but as always we want to encourage you to be the first line of defense against DisMis.
Take a look at some tips from our team:
*Review the Source: Click on the website that the article is shared by, and review the sources website, source links and a quick search of the author.
*Check the Facts: Read beyond shocking headlines to verify the facts of the information you're reading and sharing. Bad actors exploit the rapid spread of disinformation on social media, and commonly use salacious headlines.
*Consider your personal biases: Check your partisan and confirmation bias before sharing and accepting news as fact. When consuming information online, consider whether you may be seeking out answers to confirm your preconceived notions.
As we continue to develop tools to combat the spread of disinformation, we hope you’ll consider joining our mission by chipping in $10 or whatever you can today.
