** Why Do We Protect Surf Ecosystems?
------------------------------------------------------------

When you visit your favorite stretch of coastline or surf spot, there's no denying the immediate power of that special place. Even at the surface level, we know we want to preserve and protect it for future generations to enjoy. But there's more to it...
Surf ecosystems represent a combination of special attributes that inspire, foster and sustain more than just a perfectly breaking wave.
Think about the people. There are those of us who surf, swim and paddle for a sense of well-being, to connect with the ocean and experience community. And there are those of us whose entire livelihoods depend on surf ecosystems.
Imagine the biodiverse landscape. There are watersheds, beaches and reefs which provide sanctuary to birds, marine mammals, cliff-dwelling critters and plants - all of which depend on a healthy environment.
Either these factors contribute to surfable waves or they exist because the wave is there. That is a surf ecosystem.
It's a balance and a network that Save The Waves works internationally to protect. And it all starts with you.
Please consider making a special-year end donation today. We have big plans to protect and preserve hundreds of surf ecosystems in 2020 and every contribution counts. Thank you for your support!
