Executive Director Vinita Goyal pens a personal thank you to all riders and operators for an amazing Transit Month!

On Friday, October 5, San Francisco Transit Riders, Seamless Bay Area and TWU 250A held the final event of Transit Month, our Riders First Awards Celebration. It was a wonderful night, filled with joy and plans for the future of transit. See images of the event (taken by John Beutler) here.

SFTR's Executive Director, Vinita Goyal, shares her thoughts on the event and on Transit Month overall:

"In fact, the spirit of the entire Transit Month has been one of forward looking.

We rode transit with our elected officials, and we rallied in San Francisco, and in Berkeley, in San Jose, in San Mateo and in Sonoma. We met up on buses, on trains and on ferries and mingled with fellow riders, operators, and city leaders. And we watched in awe as two Chronicle reporters and a photographer rode 17 transit agencies in one day. We witnessed art, music, musings on transit, transit trivia and even stuttering stories brushed with transit. And we celebrated you all, the beats of our region’s transit. Thank you for your support and partnership. September was for you."

Meet our Transit Operator of the Year: Mike Delia (or Mr. Boston)!

Mike’s passion for transit, his fellow operators, San Francisco, and the riders he takes around San Francisco is clear. Through life’s ups-and-downs, Mr. Boston, as he’s known by his riders, operates the F-line transit with a smile on his face and a custom-made Muni cap on his head. We’re honored to give him this year’s Operator of the Year award!

Riding high on Transit Month, let's use this momentum to get out the vote for Prop L!

One of the rallying cries we heard throughout Transit Month is how important Prop L is for the future of Muni. After the failure of Prop A this past June, we can not afford a second loss at the ballot box. Come volunteer with us as we raise awareness about a campaign that hasn’t gotten the same spotlight as some others. Sign-up using the Prop L campaign volunteer form and come join us this Sunday, 10/16, in the Bayview with CCSF candidates Selby, Rizzo, Davila, and Green as we lit drop for Prop L! The mobilization begins at 11am at the Palou Phelps Minipark, which can be reached with the K, 24, and 31. We will also be at this weekend's 10/15 event in D11 if that fits your schedule better: 9am mobilization at Tasty Coffee (San Jose & Colonial - the J, 14, 23, 36, and 49 are nearish) with the D11 Democratic Club.

If you’re interested in more opportunities to volunteer on Prop L, please sign up for update emails about future events! Hope to see you on the campaign trail! You do not need to be an SFTR member to help get out the vote, but we'd love it if you become one today!

And you can find extensive documentation on the expenditure plan at SFCTA’s website.
