AIPAC Update

Dear A.,

This week, Israel and Lebanon announced a historic, U.S.-brokered agreement to resolve their maritime border dispute and recognize Israel’s economic rights to natural gas fields off its coast.

Read the latest AIPAC memo on the agreement and its ramifications.

Why it matters: The historic agreement offers both countries significant security, economic and strategic benefits, and recognizes full Israeli economic interests over the Karish natural gas field.

Our view: This agreement—made possible through close collaboration between the U.S. and Israeli governments—demonstrates that a strong U.S.-Israel relationship is the most effective way to promote regional stability and prosperity.

Palestinian Terrorism Increases in West Bank as PA Fails to Act

Palestinian terror attacks have increased significantly in the West Bank in recent months.

The latest: On Tuesday, Staff Sgt. Ido Baruch, a 21-year-old Israeli,

was killed after a Palestinian terrorist opened fire from a passing vehicle in the West Bank.

-
This follows another terror attack last week, when a Palestinian terrorist shot and killed Sgt. Noa Lazar, an 18-year-old Israeli Military Police officer, in east Jerusalem.
Background: For decades, security coordination between the IDF and the Palestinian Authority's security forces has been mutually beneficial in assuring safety for all civilians.

- However, in May the PA publicly ordered an end to cooperation with Israel, although some has continued at reduced levels.
The bottom line: The U.S. must call on the PA to clamp down on rising radicalization and enhance its cooperation with Israeli security forces to combat terror.

Context: Since August, Russian forces have been using several variants of Iranian drones in its brutal war against Ukraine.

Israel has been providing Ukraine

with intelligence on Russia’s usage of Iranian drones.

-
Israel has also provided Ukraine with non-combat aid such as helmets, protective vests, and mine protection suits.

The bottom line: As America and Israel support Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression, Iran is actively supplying Russia with deadly weapons to attack and kill Ukrainians.

TAKE ACTION
Urge Congress to pass the Stop Iranian Drones Act.

Iran Escalates Nuclear Program as Nationwide Anti-Regime Protests Continue

This week, the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog said Iran is rapidly expanding its capacity for uranium enrichment by bringing several more advanced centrifuges online.

-
Iran activated these centrifuges in just the last month, as talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal have stalled due to unreasonable Iranian demands.
Meanwhile, the

month-long anti-regime protests in Iran continued this week.

-
At least 185 people have been killed, hundreds injured, and thousands have been arrested by the regime's security forces.
State Department Spokesman Ned Price said about a potential nuclear deal:

-
"That's not our focus right now. [...] The Iranians have made very clear that this is not a deal that they have been prepared to make."

-
"Right now, [...] our focus is on the remarkable bravery and courage that the Iranian people are exhibiting through their peaceful demonstrations.”
Our view: The U.S. must stand with the Iranian people as they face vicious oppression from a dangerous regime.

-
At the same time, the U.S. cannot turn a blind eye to Iran's nuclear ambitions and must increase pressure on the regime to halt their nuclear escalation.

PA President Abbas Says He Supports Russia, Distrusts U.S. in Meeting with Putin

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas,

meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, declared that, "Russia stands for justice [and] international law."

- Abbas added: "We don't trust America."

Our view: President Abbas must end his hateful incitement against Israel and his dangerous appeasement of Putin, and instead work to foster a cooperative relationship with the United States and Israel.

Putin and Abbas met on Thursday on the sidelines of an Asia-focused conference in Kazakhstan.
