Working to Keep Prices Down
Tom has been working to end the U.S.' reliance on foreign adversaries for essential goods. He hosted a roundtable discussion in Westfield with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and local business leaders on strengthening our supply chains and increasing domestic manufacturing.
Earlier this month, Tom introduced a bill to withdraw U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates after OPEC+ announced a drastic cut in oil production. Read Tom's statement on the bill here.
Fighting Antisemitism & Extremism
Senator Cory Booker and New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin joined Tom at Temple Sinai in Summit for a conversation with faith institutions on combating antisemitism and extremism. Additionally, ten faith institutions in NJ’s 7th District received over $1.4 million in federal grants to protect against terrorist attacks & hate crimes.
Tom joined his colleagues on the Committee on Homeland Security in Teaneck, New Jersey for a hearing on the rise of antisemitism and extremism. In the hearing, Tom discussed how technology companies contribute to the spread of hate online and his bill, Protecting Americans from Dangerous Algorithms Act, which holds these companies accountable.
Around the District
Tom spoke with students at Jonathan Dayton High School, who asked questions on how elected officials can work together across the aisle, reproductive rights, and Tom's Youth Advisory Council.
He also spent time in Springfield at the Township's free public library, which was closed for six months after Hurricane Ida due to storm damage. Librarians and board of trustee discussed with Tom how the library has recovered and what flood mitigation steps can be put in place for the future.
At the Raritan Valley Science and Technology Showcase, Tom met with students from local robotics teams and STEM organizations, and saw their hard work on display.
Tom also spoke with third graders at West Amwell Elementary School who asked questions on how the government works and why civic engagement matters.
