The House Select Committee on the January 6th Attack has unanimously voted: Donald Trump will be subpoenaed to testify under oath and provide documents related to the attack on the United States Capitol that he incited last year.
It’s worth saying: This is a big deal. I applaud the committee on its thorough and unflinching investigation into this horrific attack and the planning that led up to it.
But it’s also worth saying that this has little bearing on whether Trump will get a chance to try again to steal the presidential election — a plot that’s in motion right now.
We now know Trump planned the January 6th attack in order to disrupt the electoral vote certification and stop the transfer of power to Joe Biden — with the clear goal of keeping himself in office despite losing the election. And we know that next time around, he won’t need an attack on the Capitol. His plan is to have pals oversee vote counting in key battlegrounds, and he is counting on them to throw the election his way, no matter what.
That’s what we’re up against, and we don’t have years to stop him — we have days.

But I won’t sit back and count on it — or count on a criminal conviction preventing him from steamrolling forward into 2024. Instead, I’m going to keep doing everything I can to derail his scheme to install election-denying friends in election oversight roles.
We have 25 days left to get this done, and Trump’s acolytes are leading in the polls in Nevada and Arizona, so I’m asking for all hands on deck.
