Fighting For You In Washington
September was a busy month in Washington, D.C. advocating for legislation that will keep our communities safe and healthy, support Ukraine, and bring direct federal dollars back to NJ-11 to help prevent flooding. Keep reading to learn more.
Supporting Mental Health for Students
One of the major consequences from the pandemic is its toll on the mental wellness of our students. As a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, I voted for a comprehensive approach to confront America’s ongoing mental health crisis in our schools and help students, families, and educators thrive.
Extending the National Flood Insurance Program
I proudly voted to send direct emergency assistance to help those devastated by recent natural disasters, and ensure that more resources are available to help Americans lower their home heating costs ahead of the winter months.
I am also excited that this legislation includes a funding extension for the National Flood Insurance Program. Access to flood insurance was critical to New Jersey’s recovery from Hurricane Ida last year. By extending this program, we will ensure that families can rebuild without financial ruin as we continue to experience extreme weather events.
Voting for 9/11 Victims Compensation
Ensuring 9/11 survivors, families of victims, and first responders are taken care of has been a priority of mine since day one in Congress. I proudly voted for a bill that will extend proper compensation to ALL who are now eligible.
Standing with Ukraine
During my visits to Ukraine before the war in February and again over the summer, I saw the resolve of a nation fighting for democracy. That’s why I voted to provide Ukraine with support critical to continuing its fight.
Helping Veterans Exposed To Burn Pits
Following 9/11, more than 3.5 million military service members were exposed to hazardous toxins from burn pits that impact respiratory health. I met with Rosie Torres, a nationally-known veterans advocate who was instrumental in the passage of the bipartisan PACT Act as well as Dr. Andreas Fouras, a scientist and founder of 4DMedical, the leading developer of functional imaging software for respiratory illness.
I am pleased that the PACT Act is law, and now we must work quickly and efficiently to implement its key provisions. New and emerging technologies can not only expedite the implementation of PACT Act, but also ensure every veteran has access to early treatment and the full benefits they deserve.

I am excited to be added to the NJMEP “Made in NJ Honor Roll”!
I am so honored to have been voted onto the 2022 NJMEP Made in NJ Honor Roll by the members of the manufacturing industry here in New Jersey. The 10th annual ‘Made in New Jersey’ Manufacturing Day showcased the talent and innovative spirit that has long driven our workforce in NJ. I am proud to be fighting in Washington to reshore our manufacturing and build economic opportunity through legislation like the CHIPS and Science Act and the NDAA. Thanks to NJMEP for your advocacy and partnership!
Through my work on the House Armed Services Committee, I helped secure a federal grant that will create job training positions for over 600 veterans and family members in New Jersey over the next five years. Thank you to NJMEP and the many organizations involved, including NJ Pathways, the NJ Veterans Chamber of Commerce and the County College of Morris, for your ongoing partnership in advocating for the manufacturing sector here in the Garden State.
I am proud to have supported NJMEP in their efforts to secure one of only six grant awards across the country!
Listening To You Throughout NJ-11
Honoring National Coming Out Day in Morris County
Wonderful to join Morris County Prosecutor’s and Sheriff’s Offices along with the Mayor of Morristown for the second annual Morris County National Coming Out Day celebration! This event builds relationships between the LGBTQ+ community and law enforcement in Morris County while celebrating love, acceptance, and empowerment for our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors.
Table of Hope’s Gather for Hope
Last month I attended Gather for Hope to celebrate the incredible impact that Table of Hope and Bethel Church of Morristown have on our community. And then this past week-end Bethel celebrated its 179th Anniversary - an amazing milestone! Pastor Sidney & Teresa Williams have given so much to all of us through their leadership of these organizations, and we are all keeping them in our prayers after a night time fire destroyed the parsonage where they live last week.
Supporting Women Small Business Owners
Thank you to Mary Dougherty for inviting me to join the Morristown Women in Business Network Luncheon for a legislative update. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and hearing from all of you, especially about the unique challenges facing women small business owners, always makes me a better advocate in Washington.
Honoring Local Journalists
Local news has been critical to American democracy since our country's founding, and it is more important than ever that we support the work of local journalists and ensure that local news can thrive. Thank you to the Corporation for New Jersey Local Media for your work and congratulations to everyone honored with NJ Journalism Impact Awards at the annual Byrne Kean dinner.
Sharad Poornima with the Yogi Divine Society
Congratulations to the Yogi Divine Society on their Sharad Poornima & Annakut Mahotsav celebration at Haridham Mandir which brought thousands of people to celebrate in Parsippany. Wishing you joy, peace and prosperity!
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
My team joined Latinos of Montclair at the Montclair Art Museum for the inaugural Latino Heritage Celebration! This event brought NJ-11 together to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and promote inclusiveness in our community.
Livingston’s Youth Mental Wellness Fair
It was inspiring to stop by the Youth Mental Wellness Fair organized by Shiv’s Third Eye in Livingston last month. This is an issue that is important to me not only as a Congresswoman, but as a mom of four children. Thanks to the Livingston Town Council, police, schools and all of the organizations that came together to provide resources and help end the stigma of mental health.
