What’s happening on the ground in three crisis areas needs your immediate attention. My colleagues will be updating you on the emergencies in Syria and El Salvador this week. But first, I want to update you on what’s happening in Yemen.
As the country director, I witness the devastation Yemeni families are facing every day.

Make a gift now to help us support families in Yemen and around the world.
The war is now in its fifth year and fighting has directly resulted in over 100,000 deaths since 2015, including roughly 20,000 deaths so far this year.

Appalling as these numbers are, they are dwarfed by the scale of civilian lives lost indirectly as a result of the conflict’s impact on access to health services, food and clean water.

The families I meet on a daily basis cannot wait for an end to the violence or a political solution in order to feel some level of relief. Right now, less than 45 percent of health clinics are fully operational, part of the country is on the brink of famine and it is still reeling from a cholera epidemic.

With the help of our supporters, we’ve been able to step in and provide critical support, including urgent medical care, where it’s needed most. Our mobile medical teams – doctors, midwives, nutritionists, vaccine experts and pharmacists – travel to remote locations in Yemen. On a given day, they treat up to 120 cases and can travel 4.5 hours across rocky mountain roads to reach families who are facing malnutrition, cholera and other challenges.

The IRC serves families in Yemen and all over the world. Help us provide lifesaving medical care and other critical support to families around the world, including those who are struggling to survive in Yemen.

Each week, my teams deliver health services for 10,000 individuals, rehabilitate water points for access to clean water, offer nutrition assistance and treatment to 500 children, provide cash transfers and vouchers for food to 5,000 families, and support 250 women in safe spaces. Last year alone, supporters helped the IRC reach nearly 2 million people in Yemen.

I hope you’ll help us save more lives here and around the world. The families I’ve met really are counting on you.

Thanks so much for your support and stay tuned for updates from IRC teams in Syria and El Salvador.

My very best,

Frank Mc Manus
Country Director
IRC Yemen
