2023 CLDP Applications Are Live!

Dear John,

My name is Lubna Hassan Heikal and I am the policy program manager at MPAC. My journey with the Policy Bureau began as a Policy and Advocacy Intern in 2021. As an intern, I was given ample space to explore the most pressing policy issues that affect the American Muslim community by attending congressional meetings and producing articles on current political events. One highlight as an intern was being able to assist in a virtual summit that raised awareness of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Upon graduation, I had the opportunity to combine my passion and background in public health  by serving as a Senior Health Policy Fellow at MPAC. In this position, I worked with a brilliant team to conduct research that addresses American Muslims' healthcare needs by facilitating engagement between healthcare stakeholders and government counterparts to improve outcomes for civil society. MPAC’s pipeline for leadership development in public service has served me well and given me the tools to continue advocacy for our future leaders: the American Muslim youth.

Our Congressional Leadership Development Program (CLDP) continues this pipeline for young American Muslims to secure careers on the Hill, in Federal agencies, and at firms, think tanks, and other organizations that work on issues affecting American Muslims. This ten-week program focuses on ensuring our fellows get the complete D.C. experience, starting with resume-building workshops to serving as an intern in a congressional office or federal agency.

We recognize that these competitive and sought-out internships have often been a privilege that is only affordable by some, which is why we fully fund the stay of all fellows by providing free housing as well as a stipend to cover any extra expenses that the fellow may incur during the summer months. Our mission is possible thanks to the generosity of supporters like you who are helping us provide these leadership opportunities to youth in our community every year.

Applications are now live–  Deadline December 4th!

To help applicants with their CLDP application, we are hosting virtual info-sessions throughout the Fall, where we will be discussing what a summer with CLDP would look like, what value the program offers to students, the requirements for the fellowship, the application process, and what makes an applicant competitive.

You can sign up for any of our 2023 CLDP Virtual Open Houses here.
