Dear neighbor,
It was an honor to welcome President Joe Biden to Los Angeles this week to celebrate how the historic infrastructure law is making a difference in our community. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed into law late last year, has provided funding for the LA Metro purple line extension project, connecting downtown LA to Westwood, UCLA, and the West LA VA. This project is improving public transit, reducing traffic and pollution, and creating jobs in our community – showing that the President and this Congress are putting People Over Politics.
Another way House Democrats continue to put People Over Politics is through the Inflation Reduction Act. With this new law, Democrats have acted to reduce the cost of health care by enabling Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices, capping out-of-pocket drug costs for seniors, limiting the price of insulin to $35 per month for Medicare beneficiaries, and cutting health insurance premiums for millions of Americans. Every single House Republican voted against these measures to lower drug prices and now they’re trying to repeal the lower costs delivered by Democrats.
Other updates from this week:
- Applauded the White House for adopting an approach like the one Senator Markey and I proposed through our bill, the Cyber Shield Act, to create a consumer label for internet-connected devices to indicate whether a device meets high cybersecurity benchmarks.
- Joined Alex Witt on MSNBC to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine, Saudi Arabia’s outsized influence on OPEC, the urgent need to re-evaluate the U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia, and more. Watch the full interview:
In Case You Missed It: This week, the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol held another public hearing to present further evidence to the American people. Every American should watch this hearing.
