Friend,
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) recently filed a disturbing complaint about Starbucks.
In response to workers unionizing to demand fair pay and better conditions, Starbucks is withholding a $200 million salary and benefits increase that non-unionized stores are receiving from hundreds of unionizing stores across America.
The NLRB's complaint is a significant first step, but they need more money from Congress to successfully hold powerful corporations like Starbucks accountable.
Earlier this month, I sent a letter to Starbucks with the support of over 30 of my colleagues in Congress, urging the corporate giant to stop unfairly punishing their union employees. This disparate treatment violates numerous labor laws, including the National Labor Relations Act. And with Starbucks’ resources far outpacing those of the NLRB, we need to make as much noise as possible and ensure workers are fighting on a more level playing field.
In solidarity,
Ro
