2. NEWS & OBSERVER: Five takeaways from Budd and Beasley’s Senate debate in NC
“U.S. Senate candidates Ted Budd and Cheri Beasley met on the debate stage for the first time Friday and discussed the former and current presidents, where they stand on policy issues and who was actually elected to the White House in 2020. Budd, the Republican nominee and a current member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Beasley, the Democratic nominee and the state’s former Supreme Court chief justice, had avoided all debates in 2022 until now.”

3. DAILY SIGNAL: Gender Dysphoria Diagnoses for Children Soared 70% in 2021
“Childhood gender dysphoria diagnoses soared 70% from 2020 to 2021, according to medical records of 330 million Americans analyzed by Komodo Health Inc, Reuters reported Thursday. The findings reveal a massive uptick in gender dysphoria diagnoses for children aged 6 to 17, with at least 121,882 children receiving that diagnosis in the five years leading up to 2021, according to Reuters. While most children who are diagnosed with the disorder do not medically transition, the rate of children on puberty blockers more than doubled from 2017 to 2021 to just over 5,000.
The data aligns with other findings outlining the rapid rise in transgender identities among adolescents, but it’s less clear why the trend accelerated so rapidly in 2020. Some have attributed the youth transgender trend to social contagion, citing the popularity of trans videos on TikTok and other social media platforms, while others have pointed to school programming on gender identity issues for young children.“

4. DAILY TARHEEL: State republicans could win legislative supermajority in election, might limit abortion
“Macklem said that NC Values Coalition would like to see the strongest possible protections for unborn children and is hopeful for a heartbeat bill, but that it is ultimately up to legislators.
‘It's important to get a supermajority because the left’s position is so extreme,’ Macklem said.”

5. PAUL STAM: The position of the NC Democratic Party on abortion
“On Friday October 7, it was Justice Beasley in debate wanting to ‘codify Roe v. Wade.’ Roe allowed abortion up to ‘viability’ in the single unfettered opinion of the abortionist, which they often took to be 28 weeks and further. The 20-week protection in N.C. Law was not allowed until after Roe was overruled. A federal court had enjoined that statute because of Roe. Clearly Justice Beasley doesn’t understand Roe.
All but one democrat member of Congress voted for the Women’s Health Protection Act which goes way beyond Roe in wiping out all statutory protections for unborn children in federal law and all fifty states and territories, including parental consent and informed consent laws and prohibitions on funding limitations.”

WEEKLY PRAYER: FAMILY
LORD, we cry out to you as Father. You are a model of the love, mercy, and authority of the perfect parent. We thank you for modeling for us what every parent should strive for, and for creating this wonderful institution called family.
LORD, we thank you for creating us with a basic nature designed to not be alone. You made us to desire the intimacy of relationships, and it is here where we experience joys indescribable: the joys of marriage, the joys of having children; the joys of seeing our children have children. What a blessing and mercy you gave us in the family! In it we find our first teachers, our first guardians, and our first authorities.
LORD, we recognize how deeply you love your children, and how deeply it pains you when they go astray. Alongside our adoration and thanksgiving, we pray in confession—as individuals and as members of larger communities—over any sins we may have committed that undermine your beloved institution. Forgive us when we endanger your institution through selfishness and arrogance. Forgive our communities and nation for attempting to redefine some of the most basic and deepest parts of being human—being made male and female, having lifelong marriage vows and responsibilities, and having parental rights over educating one's children.
"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:12-17)
Amen
