I?ve always had an interest in serving others through government service and have worked at some level of state or local government service since 2008. It wasn?t until I joined the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) in 2016 where my desire to serve others through state service truly became a passion. I?ve had the privilege of working with and for Minnesota?s most vulnerable Veterans since joining MDVA and working within the Homeless Programs Team.
When I came to MDVA, I truly felt like a valued member of the team and someone who was invested in as a team member and as an employee with potential to make a real impact on the lives of Veterans in Minnesota. MDVA equipped me with the skills and support necessary to develop as a professional while also carrying out my mission of advancing the end of Veteran homelessness in Minnesota.
I am a United States Air Force Veteran and served in the Air National Guard at the 119th Wing deploying to Kuwait in 2011. It meant a lot to me to serve my country and have the pleasure of serving and working alongside many Veterans and former service members. It?s because of that service that I feel so closely tied to the many terrific programs and services across the spectrum that are offered by MDVA.
It?s due to the success of these programs and services that we?ve seen a steady growth in the team needed to support these programs and, with that, it?s created a lot of opportunities for employment. We need new, dedicated staff to join our teams and help us in our mission of connecting Veterans and former service members with the state and federal benefits that they have earned.
I can?t speak more highly of my time working for MDVA and the professional and fun environment in which I get to come to work every day. I would encourage anyone who is currently working in public service, or contemplating doing so, to consider MDVA. I?m sure you?ll find it as rewarding as I have.
