John, In a couple of minutes, I’m going to ask if you can pitch in before our mid-month fundraising deadline. But before I do, I hope you’ll let me explain just how high the stakes are in this moment. Yesterday, the bipartisan House committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol presented new, disturbing evidence revealing how Donald Trump and his allies knew they lost the 2020 election, but continued to fight to overturn it any way, at any cost. While Trump admitted defeat to those around him, he told Mark Meadows, “I don’t want people to know we lost… this is embarrassing. Figure it out,” and continued to search for ways to stay in power. Trump senior advisor Roger Stone even said, “F*ck the voting, get right to the violence” the day before the Jan. 6 insurrection. Brave men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line to defend our democracy that day, with five ultimately losing their lives in the aftermath. New details have made it clear that the injuries and casualties that day had the potential to be much, much worse. Despite all of this, newly-elected Rep. Yvette Herrell used her very first vote in Congress to try overturning the election by voting against certifying the votes of millions of people. To this day, she continues to push the Big Lie — she’s one of more than 300 election-denying GOP candidates on the ballot this November. If we’re going to hold those responsible for this despicable attack on our democracy accountable and ensure it never happens again, we cannot afford to lose the House majority or keep Herrell in office.
