Hi friend, my name is Michelle.
I’m a student from Maryland. I’m a UWDA leader. And I’m undocumented.
When I was 4, I moved to the U.S. from El Salvador with my family in search of a better life.
After waiting years to apply for DACA — years full of attacks on the program waged by anti-immigrant Republicans like Trump which culminated in victory at the Supreme Court — I thought it was finally my turn.
I thought I would finally be able to get a work permit and be protected from deportation. I thought it would change my life and my family’s future.
But my application was never processed. When Judge Hanen ruled against DACA last summer, the DACA application process came to a halt.
And after another ruling against DACA from a higher federal court earlier this month, my application remains on hold as the decision on the future of the program goes back to Judge Hanen’s court — the same court that so cruelly shut down DACA just a year ago.
My life has been on hold for as long as I can remember. Last week’s ruling is yet another reminder that DACA was never meant to be and will never be enough for our communities.
I, along with over 80,000 other young immigrants, saved up and applied for the security we were promised through the DACA program. But we remain in limbo while the courts decide our future.
Enough is enough. No more temporary solutions. No more being put on hold.
Our communities are powerful. We won DACA in 2012 and defended it at the Supreme Court in 2020 because so many people before me were brave enough to demand what they deserved.
Now, our movement is taking our fight to Congress, because Democrats have the political power and moral obligation to deliver the pathway to citizenship that we need and deserve.
Tens of thousands of people just like me are counting on our elected officials to deliver results while we remain in limbo and our lives are put on hold. We need Congress to do its job by delivering a pathway to citizenship now.

Thank you for letting me share my story.
My experience is unique, but my demands are the same as the 80,000 other immigrant youth waiting for their DACA application to be processed, the hundreds of thousands of current DACA recipients, and the millions more undocumented people who aren’t even eligible for DACA.
