Plans for this year?s Winter Wonderland announced

Winter wonderland

We?re pleased to be bringing back our fantastic festive attraction, Winter Wonderland. It will bring people into the city centre, not only from Nottingham but the wider region.

A new feature this year is the Sky Skate ice path; festive fun seekers can skate for 400m around the square, high above the crowds. Sky Skate will really inject the wow factor into Christmas in Nottingham.

There will be attractions for all, including the traditional skating rink, an observation wheel that will give stunning views across the city, the toboggan run and more. The Christmas market stalls will have all the favourites including festive drinks and food.

Reduced price skating tickets will be available on Mondays to Thursdays outside the school holidays. Between Christmas and New Year there will be a special all-attractions family ticket offer.

By working with Mellors Group, we can bring Winter Wonderland to the city at no cost to local taxpayers. Find out more [ [link removed] ]

Solar panels installed in Green?s Windmill Community Garden

Green's windmill solar panels

This morning, I visited Green?s Windmill and Science Centre in Sneinton where our Carbon Reduction, Energy and Sustainability division have installed solar panels and a battery on the building in the Community Garden for free. The electricity generated by the panels will be used to power lights, a kettle, sockets for charging tools, and more, which will improve the space for volunteers, especially during the darker winter months.

Before this work was completed, the building had no connection to electricity and a lack of funding made it difficult for the team to make the upgrades needed. Thanks to donations from Warma, the contractor who is working with the City Council to install solar panels on homes across Nottingham, we have been able to complete this work free of charge.

The Green?s Windmill team have lots of brilliant ideas for using the Community Garden building now, so get in touch with them if you would like to volunteer.

Official unveiling of restored Queen Victoria Statue

Queen Victoria statue

I was delighted to see that the newly restored Queen Victoria Statue was unveiled today as a key milestone in the ?1.7million restoration of Victoria Embankment?s Memorial Gardens.

Months of painstaking work by master craftsmen Bonsers have returned the Grade II listed statue to its former glory. The Memorial Gardens have been an important asset in Nottingham for nearly 100 years and the restoration project will allow future generations to re-discover the site as a place for contemplation, relaxation and recreation. It is funded by ?1.1million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund along with match funding from The Transforming Cities Fund, The War Memorials Trust and Nottingham City Council
