None of the warning letters sent by the Food and Drug Administration to e-cigarette companies between 2020 and 2021 covered e-cigarette brands with a large market share and few addressed the e-cigarette product types most used by youth, according to a new Truth Initiative® study published in Tobacco Control.

Black D.C. neighborhoods have greater marketing for flavored tobacco products, including cigars

Tobacco stores in Washington, D.C. neighborhoods with higher percentages of Black residents had more marketing for flavored tobacco products – especially for flavored cigars – compared to neighborhoods with lower percentages of Black residents, according to research by the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in collaboration with Truth Initiative.

Apply for the Truth Initiative Tobacco/Vape-Free College Program

The Truth Initiative Tobacco/Vape-Free College Program is offering grants of up to $20,000 to colleges and universities to support the adoption and implementation of a 100% tobacco/vape-free policy. Grantees of the Tobacco/Vape-Free College Program receive guidance through webinars, an in-person training and one-on-one consultations throughout the grant period. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, October 19, at 5:00 p.m. ET.

This week in tobacco policy news

Benton County, Minnesota – The Board of Commissioners passed an ordinance to prohibit the sale of all flavored tobacco products, except in tobacco shops. The ordinance also prohibits licenses for new tobacco shops (existing tobacco shops are exempt). The ordinance will take effect January 1, 2023.
