Dear John,
Have you ever spent $99,000 on in-flight catering? The governor general did. And she’s sticking you with the tab.
Governor general Mary Simon and her entourage spent nearly six figures on airplane food during a week-long trip to the Middle East. Each passenger expensed more than $2,100 on average. That’s just for the in-flight catering.
When this story first broke, government bureaucrats didn’t want to tell you the truth about their fancy feasts.
The governor general’s deputy secretary even said the costs “were really shocking” because “we had eggs, we had omelettes.” Somehow, the bureaucrats forgot to mention the receipts we dug up through access to information requests. They included $2,500 for Beef Wellington, $230 for flowers, $984 for high-end boxed water and $305 for beef carpaccio.
But there is some good news.
Thousands of CTF supporters signed the petition to rein in the governor general’s perks and emailed politicians. Because of their pressure, members of Parliament are bringing these bureaucrats back to committee to answer for their expenses and explain why they misled Canadians.
Your neighbours are holding big spending bureaucrats accountable. And you can make a difference too. The first step to join the fight is to sign this online PETITION to rein in the governor general’s perks: https://www.taxpayer.com/petitions/rein-in-governor-general-perks
Once you sign the petition, we will let you know when you have the opportunity to act and hold the governor general and her big spending bureaucrats accountable.
Thanks for fighting for taxpayers – it’s making a difference.
Sincerely,
- Franco, Shannon, Todd and the rest of the CTF team.
