CEP Podcast Fighting Terror Launches Miniseries On Islamism
(New York, N.Y. / Brussels, Belgium) – The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) is excited to announce it will be launching a brand new miniseries “Eye on Islamism” today as part of its podcast Fighting Terror.
The miniseries is the first of several in a new program that will dive into multiple topics under the sphere of terrorism and extremism. The four episodes that make up “Eye on Islamism” focus on the ideology and the modern movement in today’s world. Host Lucinda Creighton, CEP senior advisor in Europe, will be joined by four experts in the area:
- Sir John Jenkins, former British diplomat and senior fellow at the Policy Exchange to discuss “What is Islamism?”
- Moussa Bourekba, research fellow at the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) and adjunct professor at Blanquerna Faculty of Communication and International Relations and at the University of Barcelona will investigate “Islam and Terrorism in the West.”
- Lorenzo Vidino, director of the Program on Extremism at George Washington University will examine the “Muslim Brotherhood and Associated Groups in the West.”
- Liam Duffy, CEP strategic advisor will conclude the miniseries by analyzing “The Current State of Jihadism.”
Lucinda Creighton, senior advisor in Europe to CEP, said:
“The upcoming miniseries on Islamism and ideologies is an exploration into a critical area of contemporary debate, exploring the current climate of Islam and jihadism in the West. The exciting guests we have divulging their knowledge and viewpoints on each subject give expert insight into the state of Islamism and Ideology.”
CEP’s strategic advisor and guest on the fourth episode of the series, Liam Duffy, stated:
“I am excited for the release of CEP’s Fighting Terror ‘Eye on Islamism’ miniseries, which will serve as an important reminder that, although diminished, the threat from jihadism has far from evaporated. It will also underline how, distinct from the jihadists, other iterations of Islamist ideology persist in Europe which it is just as necessary to analyze and understand.
“Rather than taking our eye off the ball, a mistake we have made in the past, these important discussions aim to keep our thinking on these complex and sensitive issues alive. After previous episodes exploring other forms of Islamist ideology, in my own appearance in the series I look forward to examining Salafi-jihadism and how it fits into the overall Islamist landscape.”
