Dear John,
I’m often asked
what keeps me up at night?
My answer: the fragile state of our democracy and the damage caused by the lies of those who — for their own political or financial gain — strive to undermine it.
These poisonous lies are inflicting real injury to our body politic and our democracy.
Look no further than the irreparable harm caused by the insurrectionist mob who were spurred by the President of the United States and his Big Lie about a stolen election. And, of Alex Jones and his followers’ unconscionable acts.
We’ve gone beyond disinformation and misinformation. There are those who make things up and peddle them as facts — as truths.
I was there on January 6th when the citadel of our democracy was attacked, and when the peaceful transition of power was violated as none of us could ever have imagined.
And now in this campaign, I’m being subjected to lies. My opponent has lied about my record and worse — he has preyed on the fears of seniors in our District for his own political gain.
Here are some of Rishi Kumar’s outright lies:
- “YOUR MEDICARE IS IN DANGER BECAUSE OF ANNA ESHOO!” and “Anna Eshoo supports the privatization of Medicare…”
- Anna Eshoo is a tool of the pharmaceutical industry.
- Anna Eshoo has only renamed two post offices during her entire tenure in Congress.
With ballots arriving in mailboxes, it bears repeating that — no one in Congress has a longer or better record on strengthening and protecting Medicare, supporting biotechnology research and lowering the cost of prescription drugs.
My record shows that I have consistently voted to protect and expand Medicare benefits, and voted against every attempt to privatize it. For more information on my record and my defense of Medicare, please see
my statement.
During the current session of Congress, I helped push through the House of Representatives a bill that allows the federal government to directly negotiate for lower prices of prescription drugs and caps the price of insulin and out-of-pocket drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries. The top issue for pharmaceutical companies has been to kill the effort of Medicare negotiating drug prices. I went head-to-head with the pharmaceutical industry to put this in place and we finally got it into law as part of the Inflation Reduction Act this August, after two decades of fighting for this transformational policy.
For more information on my stance on political contributions, please see
my statement.
I am proud of my long record of achievements for my constituents and our country, and I'm always focused on the future and the many challenges that our nation faces.
One example: I’m honored to work with President Biden on his Cancer Moonshot Initiative and authored a bill to establish the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), an independent health agency that would incubate and foster biomedical innovation to transform how we detect, treat, and cure the deadliest, most aggressive diseases like Alzheimers, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and pancreatic cancer.
I’m proud to have authored over 50 bills and amendments offered as bills that have been signed into law by every President I have served with — Republican and Democrat. For a description of my work and experience,
please visit my website here.
In any political campaign there are those who use selected bits of actual information to create disinformation, and
to lie and spread untruths. I have great faith in the intelligence of the voters and humbly ask for the opportunity to continue serving you in Congress.
Most gratefully,
Anna Eshoo
