1. We know climate chaos is upon us. Indigenous Peoples are at the frontlines experiencing impacts right now as well as fighting to shift global consciousness to protect our lands, waters, and air.
2. Indigenous Peoples make up just 5% of the Earth's population but the lands they manage contain 80% of the Earth’s remaining biodiversity. Investing in traditional knowledge protection and transmission is key to solving today’s challenges.
3. Indigenous Peoples speak 4,000 of the world's 7,000 languages. UNESCO predicts that between 50-90% of Indigenous languages (~3,000 languages) will disappear by the end of this century if action is not taken now, carrying with them generations of place-based environmental knowledge.
4. Indigenous women carry potential. And when we invest in their health, rights, and wellbeing, it creates a ripple effect that lifts up entire countries. Women reinvest up to 90% of their incomes back into their families, compared to just 30-40% by men.
5. Your investment directly supports Indigenous communities around the world, ensuring they have the funds and tools necessary to protect their dynamic cultures, languages, spiritual traditions, artistic expressions, and self-determination. Your gift will be put to work, training Indigenous women and youth, supporting the production of rights-based radio content through our Indigenous Rights Radio program, and bringing violations of Indigenous rights to the world’s attention.
