Dear 350 Chicago supporters,
We hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for fall and… gulp…winter!
We are reaching out today with a call for volunteers. While there are always ways to get plugged in at various levels of commitment within 350 Chicago, we are looking for some very specific roles to be filled. Below is a brief description of each with a link (click on the position name) to a more detailed explanation of the role, hours recommended, and additional resources to help you with the role. We are looking for proactive, dedicated leaders willing to drive their programs forward. Please reach out to us at [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about the volunteer opportunities!
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
350 Chicago would like to increase volunteer engagement, help volunteers plug in to a place they feel comfortable, capable and passionate, and retain volunteers for a longer period of time. To accomplish these goals, we would like to have a volunteer coordinator who proactively seeks out a diverse pool of volunteers and meets with them initially and periodically to find their best fit in the organization.
DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION LEAD
350 Chicago believes a diverse community is a stronger, more successful community. The climate crisis intersects innumerable critical areas from racial justice, to environmental justice, to indigenous rights, and crosses economic lines and geographic borders. We want to ensure people and the planet transcend profit, and the voices of the oppressed and marginalized lead our path forward. This work takes intentionality, and we are looking for a dedicated person to drive the group forward in our DEI mission. The DEI lead will help 350 Chicago rethink the way it operates today, help to build relationships with various communities and also increase the diversity of our volunteers, to name a few. We have a lot of growth to do in this area and would like a spearheaded effort through progressive leadership.
LIAISON TO CLEAN JOBS COALITION
350 Chicago joined the Clean Jobs Coalition in 2018 to drive passage of the Climate and Equity Jobs Act at the state level. Now that the bill has passed, the Clean Jobs Coalition will focus on implementation along with other new initiatives. We would like someone to stay plugged into this work through monthly meetings, providing a point of view for 350 Chicago at the CJC, and keeping our group informed of the CJC work.
ACTIONS COORDINATOR
Actions play a large part in grassroots movements to raise awareness, build support, and force change. 350 often follows when it comes to actions, but we would love to become a leader in actions. We are looking to host actions more regularly, take a larger role in planning joint actions, and making actions a constant in the 350 Chicago climate movement. To accomplish this we need a dedicated coordinator who can keep actions forefront in our campaigns.
VOLUNTEER LIAISON TO PEOPLE VS. FOSSIL FUELS CAMPAIGN
This volunteer will act as back up to the PvFF Coordinator, attending bi-monthly meetings on Tuesdays at noon to keep 350 Chicago and the coordinator informed of campaign activities. The volunteer will occasionally assist the coordinator as their time will allow them to perform easy tasks during the organizing of the 2 actions as part of our grant award requirements.
Best regards,
The 350 Chicago Communications Team
