Dear John,
In my last note to you, I shared stories of strength and determination from family farmers we met this year at Farm Aid 2019. I’d like to introduce you to a few more Wisconsin farmers who give me hope.
The farm economy currently pays farmers less than it costs them to produce the food they grow and raise for us, but these farmers—and so many more, all across the country—are not giving up. Like these farmers, Farm Aid isn't giving up either [[link removed]]. We’re standing with farmers like the Paris family and Dave Dolan because we don’t have a future without family farmers.

Bert and Trish Paris and their daughter Meaghan Farrell of Paris Family Farm in Belleville, WI, are at the forefront of regenerative agriculture. They raise their dairy cows on pasture and farm in ways that nourish soil health to stop climate change. “We can be part of the solution to climate change rather than the cause,” said Bert.
For the Paris family, “regenerative” doesn’t just refer to sustainable soil practices. “Grazing our cows has helped us survive and now has helped our daughter make the decision to join the farm. How great is that?” Trish said proudly.
Dave Dolan of Dolan Farms in Dodgeville, WI, is part of the Artisan Grain Collaborative. The collaborative connects grain farmers, local millers, bakers and eaters to bring back local grain production. Their members know that working together means more to the places they live than just good soil health. By helping family farmers find ways to market and distribute what they produce, they’re creating economic health within their communities.
As Dave said, “The majority of money that I make is spent locally, so it’s nice to see a product like this sold in the community that I’m a part of.”
