Dear Friends,
2019 marked PRI’s 40th anniversary—a remarkable accomplishment for an organization in the business of ideas. So much has changed in the policy landscape since 1979.
When I look back at the Institute’s work over the past 40 years, I’m proud to see how emphatically it has kept to its mission of promoting freedom, opportunity, and personal responsibility for all Americans. As president and CEO of PRI, I want to thank you for your role in the advancement of this mission.
When PRI was founded in 1979 there was no way to predict the advances for freedom and free markets we would soon see with the election of Ronald Reagan a year later. Likewise, we do not know what 2020 will bring for the cause of liberty, justice, and opportunity for all.
Yet whatever debates may lie ahead, PRI will be at the center of them, with innovative research, insights, and solutions that chart a true and achievable course to a bright future for California and America.
Our priorities for the next 12 months include:
- educating Americans on the false promises of a "Medicare for All" health care system while promoting market-based solutions;
- launching a major two-year initiative to better understand the root causes of the growing homeless crisis in California’s major cities and promote innovative, long-term solutions to address the problem;
- informing public employee union members of their newly restored First Amendment right to not pay any dues or fees to a union;
- promoting policies that expand access to high-quality education such as charter schools and digital learning opportunities;
- examining the negative impact of big-government environmental regulations on low-income and minority communities; and
- releasing additional studies in our Breaking Down Barriers to Opportunity series, a project to promote upward economic mobility and relieve aspiring entrepreneurs of onerous and unnecessary regulations.
As the end of 2019 approaches, I hope you will consider a special, year-end gift to PRI. To make your tax-deductible donation, please use this secure link: https://www.pacificresearch.org/support-pri/
