Another treasure discovered on my bus tour…
Continue to read to see what’s behind these doors….toward the bottom of this email
My first stop yesterday morning was in Mission in the Rio Grande Valley at Delia’s. They specialize in tamales (offering 18 types) and let me tell you…they did not disappoint. It’s no surprise they are a local household name. If you’re ever in the RGV, I highly recommend visiting them. I had a delicious breakfast with Senator Lucio, a great man who has served 32 years in the Texas Senate and has endorsed me for re-election.
Following breakfast, I paid a visit to the border to get the latest briefing, to meet with our DPS agents and the National Guard, and to get a closer look at this gigantic crisis firsthand. These men and women are doing an incredible job, working long hours to keep our country and border safe. Unfortunately, they are getting NO help from the Biden White House.
It was then time for lunch, so I headed over to Nana’s Taqueria in Weslaco to grab a bite. The food in the RGV is spectacular and this is yet another place to add to your Texas bucket list. The owners, Alfredo and Roxy, were spectacular hosts. On Monday, they won an award on Good Morning America for their cultural impact on the community.
After lunch, I stopped at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce for a brief press conference with several local media outlets, where I encouraged everyone to go out and vote in November. As long as Texas is operating under conservative leadership, we can keep our communities safe and our economy strong. This is a crucial election and it is critical that every patriot turn up to the polls to KEEP TEXAS RED. Grab a family member, friend, neighbor, or co-worker, and go vote!
Mainstream media says we’re not talking to the press, but we’ve been talking to local media everywhere we go. Across rural Texas, I’ve done over 60 interviews and held open press conferences in every media market I’ve visited. The Texas Tribune and Dallas Morning News think they get to decide what is newsworthy and what is not. They don't.
Next, we went way “Pharr” south to check out Evergreen Cold Storage in Pharr, Texas, and get a tour of their state-of-the-art facility. Evergreen receives the produce and it is then shipped out across the country. It got a little chilly but I must say, it was nice to briefly escape the Texas heat!
Behind the doors…
I was stunned when I walked through the doors of the Gelman Stained Glass Museum in San Juan (the treasure I discovered, referenced at the top of this email.) This is a beautiful museum with incredible antique works of art — it contains stained glass collected from North American churches that have closed their doors. A lot of the collection dates back to 100-150 years ago. I met some wonderful ladies while visiting and they said they were all voting for me before I could even ask!
As I was driving through Alamo near the border, I popped into a local barber shop. They were surprised to have the Lt. Governor walk in. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to get a haircut…I’m always moving quickly…but nothing beats a good barber and a friendly face.
Next in Donna, I ate dinner at Moran’s Pizzeria and was welcomed by an excited crowd and their great Mayor, Rick Morales, and our great veterans. The restaurant was packed to the brim with people from the Valley who are looking forward to the elections in November and to cast their vote for the Republican Party. The Donna High School Boys Golf Team was there to greet me. They won the Donna ISD Golf Invitational this year, congratulations to them!
To end my night, I spoke to the Cameron County GOP in Harlingen at SMOKE: Texas BBQ & Watering Hole. These folks know how important the upcoming elections are, and they are ready to tell their friends, family, and neighbors to get out and vote RED! Everywhere I went yesterday, I met Republicans—as a club, just saying hi on the streets, and in the businesses. There is a real red wave building in the Rio Grande Valley.
