John,
Less than a month before the midterm election, and Republicans are advertising the backwards things they’ll do if they take control of the House. And — spoiler alert — none of it is good.
Republicans are still slightly favored to win the House. Chip in $10 now to help hold the line against their no-good plans >>
There are two schools of thought in the Republican Party right now — and honestly, we’re not sure which one is worse.
The first group wants to use the power of the majority to push their legislative agenda. This includes banning abortion nationwide, undermining the Affordable Care Act even if they can’t muster the votes to fully repeal it (because it has that much bipartisan popularity among voters), finishing the border wall and naming it after Donald Trump, and giving more tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy at the expense of working families.
The second group wants to use their power to attack the Biden administration, pulling officials into baseless investigations. They feel wronged because during the most corrupt presidency of our lifetimes, Democrats led congressional investigations into actual wrongdoing by President Trump and his cronies. Now they just want revenge.
There are even some people in the second group who think that the only reason they are in Congress is to use baseless investigations as political weapons. Rep. Matt Gaetz recently said:
“It should be investigations first [and] policy, bill-making to support the lobbyists and the PACs as a far, far diminished priority.”
How cynical and anti-government do you have to be to think that the only purpose of the office to which you are elected is to attack members of the other party? Yet this is where we’re headed if Republicans win control in November. We have to stop them. Will you make a contribution to stop the party of Trump in its tracks?
