Hey there --
In case you missed it, Elon Musk announced he wants to acquire Twitter again for $44 billion.
Here’s why this is a big surprise: First, Elon Musk wanted to buy Twitter in April. Then, he changed his mind and tried to walk away from the deal in May, but Twitter sued him. Now, right before their trial, Elon’s back to wanting to buy the company—suspiciously just after he allegedly spoke with Vladimir Putin and tweeted out a potential “peace” plan for the war in Ukraine [1].
Elon’s rapid reversals and cozy relationship with Putin show he can’t be trusted to take over one of the most influential social media platforms if he’s willing to jeopardize American democracy and national security. This has been a complete 180 from Musk’s public posturing over the past months, begging the question – what changed?
We need to hold Musk accountable. Unfortunately, there aren’t many options to get the answers we all deserve, but Congress does have the power to investigate and must do so immediately. Add your name to urge Congress to investigate Elon Musk's Twitter takeover. [[link removed]]

Through its subpoena power, Congress can require Musk to testify under oath and produce materials to answer key questions, including:
- Is Musk communicating with foreign actors — like he reportedly has with Vladimir Putin — who could use his Twitter acquisition to undermine American interests?
- Are foreign actors financially supporting this acquisition?
- Would Musk exploit Americans’ safety and/or sensitive user data to benefit foreign actors?
Elon Musk’s erratic behavior, murky financing, and foreign interests warrant an investigation. Will you join us in urging Congress to use its subpoena power to investigate Elon Musk's last-minute Twitter takeover? Sign on now → [[link removed]]
Through all this opacity, one thing is clear: Musk’s plans for Twitter would have HUGE repercussions for society and democracy. If he succeeds in buying the company, he plans to roll back Twitter’s safeguards against hate, disinformation, and extremism.
With the midterms on the horizon and the 2024 presidential race looming large, the last thing we need is more unaccountable billionaires controlling more of our information ecosystem.
Thanks for being with us,
