Hi,

Three separate Amazon warehouses caught fire last week — just days before
Prime Day.^1 Amazon workers across the nation are walking out to demand a
fair wage and protest unsafe working conditions, threats of racial
violence, unfair pay, sexual harassment, and constant surveillance they’re
subjected to.^2

But even as workers are walking out in solidarity, Amazon still refuses to
acknowledge the Amazon Labor Union.

Big shopping holidays like Prime Day and Black Friday only exacerbate the
exploitation of Amazon workers. Fire department investigations into the
three warehouse fires — in Albany, Staten Island, and Alabama — were not
completed in time for Prime Day.

On October 11, warehouse workers at a major distribution hub in Joliet,
Illinois walked out demanding the tech giant agree to a living wage,
respond to reported death threats against Black employees, and create a
safe work environment.^3 Another walkout is planned for Friday in San
Bernadino, California after Amazon failed to respond to demand for better
pay and safe work conditions.^4

These workers’ actions are particularly brave given Amazon’s history of
union busting in Bessemer and Staten Island and the tech giant’s recent
suspension of 50 workers who stopped working after a warehouse fire.^2

Amazon treats its workers like an expendable resource. Workers won’t stand
for it, and we stand with them.
