Militarized policing continues to result in the harassment, incarceration, and even murder of Black people. Despite this, we are continuing to see calls for more spending on police at a national level. We cannot pass legislation like the Invest to Protect Act , the COPS on the Beat Program Reauthorization and Parity Act , or any other bills that would make multi-million dollar investments in police departments.

We know that the only way to stop police violence is to invest significantly in our communities—not police.

Last month, we joined over 65 Black-led organizations, including the Movement for Black Lives, Black Voters Matter , and Black to the Future Action Fund , to urge the Congressional Black Caucus to oppose both bills and any that increase funding for the police.

Join us to demand that Congress centers holistic, life-affirming policy priorities that will deliver REAL solutions for community safety and oppose more police funding

These past 25 years, state and local police departments have received more than $14 billion in Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) funding. Despite this, time and time again, we see how local police departments cannot, and do not, prevent crime or make the city safer; instead, they often escalate violent situations, putting lives unnecessarily at risk.
While the House passed the Invest to Protect Act as part of a policing package, we are still waiting for the Senate to sign off.

There’s still a chance to act! Demand the Senate oppose the Invest to Protect Act NOW! [[link removed]]

We need to divest from policing systems and invest in community resources like quality education, mental health resources, health care, and access to opportunities for economic advancement. True justice exists by developing new models of safety so that we are all free and safe.

In Solidarity,
Judith Browne Dianis
Executive Director

P.S. If you haven't seen it yet, watch the full How Cops Get Off video series here [[link removed]] that breaks down three major elements that keep cops protected and reinforce racist practices that harm our communities.
