Hi John,
Wirecutter recently published a piece that promotes using home surveillance tech to monitor trick-or-treaters or scare your kids for Halloween amusement.[1]
Surveillance is spooky, and it shouldn’t be normalized by calling it “just plain fun.” When Wirecutter produces these clickbait-y pieces, or when Amazon and MGM produce a show like Ring Nation, they minimize the very serious harms these tools pose to millions of people every day.
We are running multiple campaigns to fight the spread of creepy and dangerous surveillance into our homes and neighborhoods.[2]

This is not the first time Wirecutter has done this. Our Rescind Ring campaign has been calling on Wirecutter to give dangerous products, like Ring surveillance cameras, the bad reviews they deserve. Right now, Wirecutter and other tech reviewers endorse surveillance technology as if it doesn’t have scary implications for individuals and their communities. Fight has been pushing review sites to account for the societal harms of these products.[3] We make sure to dedicate time and resources to fighting companies making creepy tech because we believe it’s an urgent human rights issue—and we need you to make sure we can keep doing it.
Will you donate $5, $10, or $15 to keep our campaigners on the tail of companies that push these creepy and dangerous products onto consumers?
STOP CREEPY TECHThank you for your support,
